Robert Sellers, originally from Tennessee, served in the War for Texas Independence.  His father was Robert Sellers of South Carolina who had become an early settler of Gibson county, Tennessee.  Sellers came to St. Augustine, Texas in December, 1835.  He established a headright consisting of a league of land in the Southwest part of Gonzales county near La Grange and built one of the first permanent cabins in the area.

At the outbreak of the War for Texas Independence, Sellers joined Sam Houston’s army as part of the Campaign of 1836, representing Fayette County.  He was on detached duty at the time of the Battle of San Jacinto and did not participate in that engagement.

He purchased land in Fayette county and established a farm there.  During this period, he also fought in the Mexican War of 1848.  In 1852, Sellers moved to Colorado county where he operated a farm until 1882 when he moved to Luling where he died in 1893.

His first wife was Margaret Miller who died about 1837 in Texas.  They had two children; Martha (b1834 d1864) and Elizabeth.

Martha, who on 7/18/1854 married Green L. Andrews a Baptist preacher, had 3 sons and 2 daughters. Two were noted attorneys:

Mary E (Mamie) Born 9/4/1855.  Married John A. Gregory 10/4/1871.  Their daughter Laura Lee married Wilson S. Young   8/2/1891
Reddin Andrews Born 8/15/1857 Columbus, Texas.  Married Emma Virginia Chance. Died 10/3/1920. 
William T. Born 10/1859 Alleyton, Colorado County, Texas.  Attorney at Throckmorton
Ella Braxton Married Leroy Tankersley 5/1/1891, Died 6/22/1939
Frank Born 6/15/1864 Fayetteville, Texas  Died 12/7/1936.  Attorney and businessman in Houston

Sellers’ second wife was Nancy Sellers, a daughter of Lard Sellers of South Caroline, an early settler of Maury county Tennessee.

Their children were: Isaac a Baptist preacher at Georgetown, Nannie, Robert F. a farmer in Gonzales county and Annie.
